Sockets (also known as couplings) are straight threaded fittings used to join two lengths of pipe or male-threaded components in a continuous line. Manufactured from malleable iron, they provide a strong and reliable connection for a wide range of mechanical, fire protection and industrial pipework systems.

Product Description

Malleable iron sockets are used to connect two male threaded pipe ends in a straight line, effectively extending pipe runs or joining components within a system. They are one of the most commonly used threaded fittings due to their simplicity, reliability and versatility.

 
These fittings feature BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper) female threads at both ends, which provide a tight mechanical seal when installed with appropriate sealing compounds or PTFE tape. The tapered thread design improves sealing performance compared to parallel thread alternatives, helping to ensure leak-resistant joints under pressure.

 
Manufactured from malleable cast iron, sockets offer a combination of strength and ductility, allowing them to withstand installation torque, vibration and thermal movement without cracking. This makes them suitable for demanding environments across building services and industrial applications.

 
They are widely used in fire sprinkler systems, plumbing, heating, gas and oil pipework, HVAC systems and general mechanical installations. Their straightforward inline design makes them ideal for both new installations and system modifications where pipework needs to be extended or repaired.

 
Sockets are typically available in sizes ranging from small bore up to larger diameter systems (commonly from around 8mm to 100mm), supporting a broad range of installation requirements. They are also manufactured in accordance with recognised standards such as BS EN 10242, ensuring consistent quality and compatibility with standard BSP threaded pipe systems.

 
Available in Black (self-colour) for general internal use or systems that will be painted/coated, and Hot Dip Galvanised (HDG) for enhanced corrosion resistance in external or more aggressive environments.
