Reducing Sockets are threaded pipe fittings used to join two different BSP pipe sizes in a single inline connection. Manufactured from malleable iron, they feature female BSPT threads at both ends, allowing for a smooth and reliable transition between differing diameters.
They are widely used in fire protection, plumbing, heating and industrial pipework systems where size reduction is required without introducing additional fittings.
• Female-to-female BSPT threaded design
• Allows direct reduction between pipe sizes
• Manufactured from durable malleable iron
• Compact inline fitting for space-saving installations
• Strong, leak-resistant threaded connection
• Suitable for a wide range of pipework systems
• Available in corrosion-resistant finishes
Reducing Sockets are designed to connect two male threaded pipe components of different sizes, enabling a direct transition between pipe diameters within a single fitting. This eliminates the need for separate reducers and couplings, simplifying installation and reducing the number of joints in the system.
Typically manufactured from malleable cast iron, these fittings offer a strong yet slightly ductile structure, providing excellent resistance to mechanical stress, vibration and installation torque. This makes them suitable for demanding threaded pipework applications.
The BSPT (tapered) female threads are engineered to form a secure, pressure-tight seal when installed with appropriate sealing compounds or PTFE tape. The tapered design ensures reliable engagement and consistent performance across a range of operating conditions.
Reducing sockets are commonly produced in accordance with standards such as BS EN 10242 and are suitable for a variety of low to medium pressure systems depending on specification. They are frequently rated for use in water, air, gas, oil and fire protection applications.
Their concentric design helps maintain a straight flow path, making them suitable for installations where alignment and flow efficiency are important. In systems where space is limited, they provide a compact and efficient method of adapting pipe sizes.
Available in Black (self-colour) and Hot Dip Galvanised (HDG), they can be selected based on environmental conditions, with galvanised options offering enhanced corrosion resistance for external or more aggressive environments.
Ideal for fire sprinkler systems, plumbing, heating, gas and oil pipework, HVAC installations and general industrial services where a direct reduction between threaded pipe sizes is required.
