Grooved Flexible Couplings are mechanical fittings used to join grooved pipe ends while allowing controlled movement within the piping system. Unlike rigid couplings, they are specifically designed to accommodate angular deflection, axial movement and minor misalignment, helping to reduce stress on pipework caused by vibration, thermal expansion or structural movement.
Manufactured from ductile iron and supplied in red-painted or hot-dip galvanised finishes, they are widely used in fire protection, HVAC, water distribution and industrial pipework systems where flexibility and reliability are essential.
• Allows angular deflection, axial movement and vibration absorption
• Ductile iron construction for high strength and durability
• Grooved mechanical connection for fast installation
• Red oxide painted or hot dip galvanised finishes
• EPDM gasket sealing system for reliable leak resistance
• Helps reduce stress on pipework and connected equipment
• Suitable for fire protection and mechanical services
• Compatible with standard grooved pipe systems
Flexible grooved couplings use a mechanical housing and elastomer gasket system to connect two grooved pipe ends. When the housing bolts are tightened, the gasket is compressed around the pipe ends and groove profile, forming a pressure-responsive seal that becomes more effective as internal pressure increases.
Unlike rigid couplings, flexible versions are designed with controlled clearance at the pipe ends, allowing limited movement within the joint. This includes angular deflection, axial movement (expansion and contraction), and the ability to absorb vibration from pumps, equipment or system operation.
The grooved system eliminates the need for welding or threading, significantly reducing installation time and allowing for easier maintenance or system modification. The joint remains demountable, meaning components can be replaced or adjusted without cutting pipework.
Manufactured from ductile iron, these couplings provide high mechanical strength and durability under pressure and dynamic load conditions. Grooved systems are widely used in commercial and industrial piping, with typical applications including fire sprinkler networks, HVAC systems and water distribution infrastructure.
Flexible grooved couplings are particularly valuable in systems where thermal expansion, vibration or building movement would otherwise place stress on rigid pipe joints, helping to extend system life and improve reliability.
Finishes are typically supplied as red oxide painted for fire protection identification or internal use, and hot dip galvanised for improved corrosion resistance in external or more aggressive environments.
Ideal for fire sprinkler systems, HVAC installations, chilled water systems, water distribution and industrial pipework where movement, vibration absorption and fast mechanical installation are required within a grooved piping system.
